The short answer
New Card Is Being Produced means USCIS has approved your case and ordered your physical card, such as a green card or work permit. The card is being printed at a USCIS facility and has not been mailed yet. The next update is usually "Card Was Mailed To Me," with a tracking number.
At a glance
| Is the case approved? | Yes. USCIS only orders a card after approval. |
| Where is the card? | At a USCIS card facility, not yet with USPS |
| Common forms | I-485, I-765, I-90, I-751 and OS155A |
| Next status | Card Was Mailed To Me |
| Your task now | Make sure USCIS has your current address |
What Does "New Card Is Being Produced" Mean?
The update means USCIS approved your application and ordered your card. The card is being printed with your photo, name and data. It is still at the USCIS card facility. You do not need to file anything. Your only job is to make sure your mailing address is current.

What the status confirms
The card production update confirms three things: an officer decided your case, the decision was favorable, and a card order exists. It does not confirm a mailing date or a delivery date. Those come with the next update.
What it does not mean
It does not mean the card is in the mail, and it does not show a tracking number. It also does not mean a second review is under way. Production is a printing step, not a decision step.
Does "New Card Is Being Produced" Mean Your Case Is Approved?
Yes. USCIS orders a card only after it approves the form that leads to the card. If your status jumped straight to new card is being produced with no approval message, the approval still happened. Some cases simply skip the separate "Case Was Approved" headline.
Is the card already approved?
The card itself is not a separate decision. Once the case is approved, the card follows. A favorable decision is already on record. Our guide to approval case decision rendered explains the decision message and the approval notice.
Can USCIS still change its mind?
Reversals after card production are rare. USCIS can reopen a case for fraud or a serious error, but that happens with a written notice. If you get one, read the deadline and talk to an immigration attorney or DOJ-accredited representative.
The Exact Wording: "We Ordered Your New Card"
The status text usually starts with the date and the words "we ordered your new card" for your receipt number. It then says USCIS will mail the card to the address you gave.
If the wording on your screen differs a little, the meaning is the same: the order exists and printing is under way.
Why the wording mentions your address
The message reminds you that the card goes to the address on file. That line is a hint: if you moved, act now. Once the card ships, changing the address is much harder.
What Is the Card Order Date in the Message?
The date in the message is the card order date. It is not the approval date, though they can be the same day. Write it down. If you later ask USCIS about a missing card, this date helps the agent find the order. Keep a screenshot of the status page as a dated record.
Card Was Produced vs Card Is Being Produced: What Is the Difference?
"Card Is Being Produced" means printing is in progress. "Card Was Produced" means printing is finished and the card is waiting to ship. Both mean the card is still at USCIS. Many applicants see only one of the two before the mailing update appears.

Card was produced meaning
Card was produced is a short, late step. The card exists, is checked and is ready for the mail. Applicants report that some cases show it and others go straight to mailing. Neither path signals a problem.
Does the "Card Was Produced" Wording Differ by Form?
The phrase appears on green card, EAD and replacement card cases. Older cases sometimes show slightly different text. We could not find an official USCIS list of every card status wording, so focus on the meaning: the card is printed, mailing comes next.
Where Does Card Production Sit in the Status Path?
Card production comes after the decision and before mailing. Before it you usually see an approval or a review status. After it you see "Card Was Mailed To Me" and USPS updates.
The table below shows the common routes into and out of this step, including OS155A and returned-card cases.
Status flow around card production
Each row shows a common route into card production, the update that usually follows and what moves the case forward.
| Previous status | This status | Likely next status | What moves it forward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Case Was Approved | Card production update | Card Was Produced or Mailed | Printing finishes |
| Case Is Being Actively Reviewed | Card production update | Card Was Mailed To Me | Approval and card order on one day |
| Fee Was Received (OS155A) | Card Is Being Produced | Card Was Mailed To Me | Immigrant Fee paid and entry recorded |
| Card Was Returned To USCIS | Card production update | Card Was Mailed To Me | Address fixed, card re-sent or reprinted |
Why we list no day counts
USCIS publishes no official number of days for the printing step. We do not invent ranges; we tell you what moves the case instead.
Forum posts that quote exact days describe single cases, not a rule you can plan around.
What Happens Inside Card Production?
Inside card production, USCIS prints your personal data and photo on a secure card, checks it against your record, packs it and hands it to the U.S. Postal Service. These steps happen in a card facility, not at your local field office.

Where your photo and signature come from
Your biometrics (photo, fingerprints and signature) are usually taken at a biometrics appointment. USCIS may reuse earlier biometrics. That is why the card can be printed without a new appointment after approval.
Security features on the card
Green cards and EADs carry security features that make them hard to copy. That is one reason they are printed centrally. A local office cannot print a card for you on the spot.
New Card Is Being Produced for I-485 Green Cards
For Form I-485, the status means your green card (Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card) is being printed. You are already a permanent resident from the approval date. The card proves that status. An approval or welcome notice usually arrives separately.
New card is being produced I-485 meaning
This update on an I-485 case means adjustment of status is complete. No interview or form remains. Your Form I-485 adjustment of status case ends with the card's delivery.
What Happens to Pending I-765 and I-131 Cases After the Green Card?
A pending Form I-765 or Form I-131 filed with your I-485 has its own receipt. The I-485 card was produced update does not change those cases. Some applicants see those side cases closed after the green card approval, since the green card already allows work.
Green Card (I-485) vs Work Permit (I-765): How the Status Differs
The same status line appears for both forms, but the card is different. A green card proves permanent residence. An EAD proves work permission for a set period. Check the receipt number to know which card the update is about.

Side-by-side comparison
The table compares the two most common card cases on what the card is, what it allows and how you renew it.
| Point | Form I-485 green card | Form I-765 work permit |
|---|---|---|
| Card made | Permanent Resident Card (I-551) | Employment Authorization Document (I-766) |
| Separate approval message? | Often shown first | Often skipped |
| What the card allows | Live and work permanently | Work until the end date on the card |
| Validity | Most green cards are valid for 10 years; conditional green cards for 2 years | Dates printed on the card |
| Renewal later | Form I-90 or I-751 | New Form I-765 |
Which receipt is which
If you filed several forms together, each has a receipt number. Match the number in the status message to your receipt notices. The case type on the notice tells you whether the update is for the green card or the work permit.
New Card Is Being Produced for I-765 Work Permits
For Form I-765, the update means your Employment Authorization Document is being printed. Many EAD cases skip a separate approval headline, so this message is often the first sign of approval. Your work permit is valid only from the dates printed on the card.
New card is being produced I-765 meaning
I-765 new card is being produced means the officer approved your work permit. You can usually start work for an employer once you have the card for Form I-9. Read the "valid from" date; you cannot use the card before it.
Does the EAD Automatic Extension Cover Your Renewal?
Rules on gaps between EADs changed. As of October 2026: Ended: renewals filed on or after Oct. 30, 2025 no longer get the up-to-540-day automatic extension (exceptions: TPS by law/Federal Register notice; STEM OPT 180 days). Our EAD automatic extension guide explains who is still covered. If your old card expires while the new one prints, talk to your employer before the end date.
H-4 EAD, STEM OPT and Other EAD Categories
The production message looks the same in every EAD category. H-4 EAD new card is being produced means the H-4 spouse's work permit is printing. STEM OPT, asylum-based and parole-based cards follow the same steps. The category code on the card shows the basis.
H-4 EAD card production
For H-4 spouses, the card often follows an H-4 extension decision. Check the validity dates, since they can be tied to the H-1B spouse's status. Keep the approval notice for the H-4 extension with the card.
STEM OPT and student cards
For students, the card shows the OPT or STEM OPT dates. Share them with your school's designated school official. Do not start a job before the card's start date unless your school confirms a valid exception.
Card Production for I-90 Renewals and Replacements
For Form I-90, the update means your renewed or replacement green card is printing. Your status as a permanent resident never lapsed. The old card, if you still have it, is no longer needed once the new one arrives. Our Form I-90 renewal guide covers the process.
Proof of status while the I-90 card prints
Until the new card arrives, use your receipt notice. I-90 receipt notice + expired card = proof of status for 36 months from the card's expiration date. Keep the receipt and the expired card together for work and travel checks.
Will a Replacement I-90 Card Fix a USCIS Printing Error?
If you filed Form I-90 to fix a USCIS printing error, the new card should show the corrected data. Check every field closely on arrival against your passport and approval notice. The fee for the form, as of October 2026, is $465 (paper) / $415 (online).
Card Production After I-751 Approval
After Form I-751 approval, the update means your 10-year green card is being printed. The conditions on your residence are already removed. The new card replaces the 2-year card. Our Form I-751 removal of conditions guide covers the decision itself.
Your receipt notice still matters
Until the 10-year card arrives, your extension still applies. I-751 receipt notice extends conditional status and work authorization for 48 months. Carry the receipt notice with your expired 2-year card.
When the card prints without an interview
Many I-751 cases are approved without an interview, so card production can be the first sign of approval. That is normal and the decision is final.
Watch for the mailed update next.
DACA and TPS Cards in Production
DACA and TPS cases end with an EAD card, so they show the same production message. The card shows the category code and validity dates. These programs change often, so read the dates on your card rather than relying on older rules.
DACA renewals
As of October 2026: DACA: renewals processed; initial requests accepted but not processed. A production update on a renewal means your new DACA-based work permit is printing. Our DACA status guide tracks program changes.
TPS work permits
TPS work permits follow Federal Register notices for each country. Read the card's end date and any automatic extension notice. Our TPS status guide lists current designations and links to the official list.
What Is OS155A?
OS155A is the case type USCIS uses for green cards issued to people who immigrate on an immigrant visa from abroad. The name comes from the State Department's immigrant visa paperwork. After you pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee, your card case appears under this form type.

OS155A meaning in plain words
OS155A meaning: it is not a form you fill out. It is the label for your green card production case after consular processing. We could not confirm the label's origin on an official USCIS page; the meaning above is how applicants and attorneys widely describe it.
Where the OS155A case starts
Your immigrant visa case starts at the National Visa Center and a consulate. Our NVC case status guide explains that stage. The OS155A case begins once USCIS receives your visa file and fee.
Card Is Being Produced OS155A: What It Means for New Immigrants
Card is being produced OS155A means USCIS has your immigrant visa file, your fee and your admission record, and is printing your green card. You are already a permanent resident from the date you entered the U.S. on the immigrant visa.

Your visa stamp as proof meanwhile
Your immigrant visa stamp in the passport serves as temporary proof of permanent residence for a limited time after entry. Keep the passport safe until the card arrives.
Its end date is printed on the stamp itself.
Have You Paid the USCIS Immigrant Fee for Your OS155A Card?
As of October 2026, the USCIS Immigrant Fee is $235. It is paid online, ideally after you get the immigrant visa and before you travel. An unpaid fee is a common reason an OS155A case sits without card production. Save the payment confirmation with your passport.
Why Would You See Card Production Without an Approval Message?
Some cases go from review straight to card production. USCIS may approve and order the card the same day, so only the production message shows. This is common for work permits, I-90 renewals and I-751 cases. It still means approved.
Same-day approval and order
When the approval and the card order happen together, the system shows the later event. You may still get an approval notice by mail. The favorable decision stands either way.
Approval notice arriving after the card
Some applicants get the card before the approval notice. Others get them on the same day. Both are normal. Keep each document as it arrives.
Check that the details on both documents match each other and your passport.
How Long Does Card Production Take?
USCIS does not publish an official time for card production. The step usually ends with the "Card Was Mailed To Me" update. For the whole case timeline, see the official tool at egov.uscis.gov/processing-times, our green card processing time page, or the work permit processing time page.
Why timing varies
Production time can depend on the card facility's volume, data checks and the mailing schedule. Treat forum timelines as stories, not promises.
Your own status updates and mail are the only reliable signals for your case.
Uscis new card being produced and holidays
Federal holidays and mail volume can slow any mailing step. That is not a sign of trouble. Check your status again after a reasonable wait before calling.
Give it a week or two past a holiday period.
What Can Slow Card Production Down?
Common reasons are an address problem, a data mismatch such as a name spelling, a missing fee on OS155A cases, or a need to reuse or retake biometrics. Most delays clear without action, but address and fee problems need you to act.
Delays you can fix yourself
- An old address on file: file a change of address now.
- An unpaid USCIS Immigrant Fee on an OS155A case.
- A name change since filing: tell USCIS with proof.
Act on these the same day.
Delays only USCIS can fix
Data mismatches, a card failing quality checks or a biometrics issue are handled inside USCIS. If the status sits on production for a long time, call USCIS so an agent can see the case record.
What Comes After "Card Was Produced"?
After card was produced, the next status is "Card Was Mailed To Me." That update usually includes a USPS tracking number. Then you may see delivery updates. Our guide to the update card was mailed to me covers tracking and delivery problems.
What comes after card was produced if the address is wrong
If the address on file is wrong, the card may come back. The status then changes to a returned message. See our guide on a card returned to USCIS for how to fix it.
When the case is finished
Your case is complete once the card arrives and the data is correct. No further update is expected on that receipt number.
Keep the receipt notice, the approval notice and a copy of the card together, because later filings such as Form N-400 or an I-90 renewal may ask about them.
"What to Do Now": Card Production Decision Table
Use this table to match your situation to the next action. Most people only need to confirm their address and wait.
The first table covers problems with your address, name or fee. The second covers travel, work, long waits and fake fee demands. If more than one row fits, fix the address first, because it decides where the card goes.
Decision table for address, name and fee problems
These rows cover the three problems you can usually fix yourself before the card ships.
| If this is your situation | Do this now |
|---|---|
| You moved since filing | File a change of address with USCIS right away |
| Your name changed since filing | Contact USCIS with proof of the new name |
| OS155A case with no production update | Check that the USCIS Immigrant Fee was paid |
Decision table for travel, work and scams
These rows cover plans that cannot wait for the card and messages that ask you for money.
| If this is your situation | Do this now |
|---|---|
| You need to travel before the card arrives | Ask about temporary proof first |
| Your EAD is expiring and the new card is printing | Read the automatic extension rules for your category |
| Status has not moved for a long time | Call USCIS with your receipt number |
| Someone asks you to pay to "release" the card | Do not pay; check the official tool |
When to wait instead
If your address is current and nothing else in the table applies, simply wait. Calling too early rarely speeds up printing.
Check the status again in a week, and keep watching your mail for an approval notice.
What Should You Check While the Card Is Being Produced?
Check that USCIS has your current address, that your name is on the mailbox, and that your online account is linked to the case. Save your receipt number. These steps make sure the card reaches you on the first try.

Your address in USCIS records
Your online account shows the address USCIS has. If it is wrong, fix it right away. The card ships to whatever address is on file on the mailing day.
Your mailbox and building
Put your full name on the mailbox. Tell your building manager or mailroom to expect a USCIS envelope.
If the building has a front desk, give staff the name exactly as it appears on your case.
Can You Change Your Address During Card Production?
Yes, and you should if you moved. File a change of address with USCIS as soon as possible. If the card has not shipped, the new address may be used. If it already shipped, contact USCIS and the post office. Our USCIS change of address guide shows the steps.
Timing matters
The earlier you change the address, the better. A change filed after printing can still reach the record before mailing, but there is no guarantee. Keep the confirmation receipt from the change.
Post office forwarding is not enough
USPS forwarding does not update USCIS records. Some USCIS mail is not forwarded at all. Update USCIS directly.
A card sent to an old address can come back to USCIS, which adds weeks to the wait.
Can You Work While Your EAD Is Being Produced?
Not on the new card yet. You can use the new EAD only once you have it and its start date has arrived. If you have a current EAD, keep using it until it expires. A production status screenshot is not an I-9 document.
If your old EAD is about to expire
Check whether your category has an automatic extension. Since the rules changed for renewals filed on or after Oct. 30, 2025, many people no longer get one. Plan with your employer early.
If this is your first EAD
Wait for the card. Your employer needs the physical card or another valid document for Form I-9.
In most categories, a receipt notice for a first-time Form I-765 does not let you work. Ask your employer which start date to plan around.
Can You Travel While Your Green Card Is Being Produced?
You can travel within the U.S. with other ID. Travel abroad is riskier, because you need proof of permanent residence to return. If you must leave, ask about temporary proof first. Our travel with a pending I-485 guide covers pre-approval trips.
International trips during production
Avoid them if you can. If you cannot, request a temporary I-551 stamp before you leave. Carry your approval notice as well.
Plan for the possibility that the card arrives while you are away, and ask someone to collect it.
After the card arrives
Once you have the card, standard rules for green card holders apply. Our green card holder travel rules guide explains long trips.
Check the card's details before any trip.
Proof of Status Before the Card Arrives
If you need proof of permanent residence before the card arrives, ask USCIS for a temporary stamp. As of October 2026: I-551/ADIT stamp: temporary proof of green card status; request through the USCIS Contact Center (800-375-5283). Bring your passport and approval notice to the appointment.
How to ask for an appointment
Request an in-person appointment online at my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/v2 or call 800-375-5283. Explain the urgency, such as travel or a job start. Our I-551 stamp guide shows what the stamp looks like.
Stamps do not speed up the card
Getting a stamp does not change your card's production order. The card still arrives by mail.
The stamp is proof for the time you wait. Keep the card order date handy at the appointment.
Status Stuck on Card Production: What Now?
If the status has stayed on production for a long time, check your account for notices, confirm your address, and on OS155A cases confirm the fee was paid. Then call USCIS with your receipt number. Our guide on case status not updating explains other causes.

Do not refile too early
Do not file Form I-90 for a card that has not arrived until USCIS confirms it was lost or returned. A new filing can create a second case and more delay.
What Should You Tell USCIS About a Stuck Card Order?
Call 800-375-5283. Give your receipt number, the card order date from the status message and your current address. Ask whether the card was printed and when it shipped. Our contact USCIS guide explains how to reach a live agent. Note the agent's answer and the call date.
Card Production Started Twice or Moved Backward
Sometimes the production status appears twice, or an older status reappears. This can happen when a card is reprinted after a quality check or a returned envelope. A repeated production message usually means a reprint, not a new decision.
Reprints after a returned card
If a card came back to USCIS, it may be re-sent or reprinted once the address is fixed. The status then returns to production or mailing.
Fix the address quickly so the card can be re-sent.
Status going back to review
A rare move from production back to review can mean USCIS found a data problem. Watch for a notice and read it carefully.
If no notice arrives in a few weeks, call USCIS and ask what changed on the case.
Errors You Can Still Catch Before Printing
If you know your name, date of birth or other data is wrong in your file, tell USCIS now. Early action may prevent a wrong card. Once a card prints with an error, you usually need Form I-90 to fix it.
Name and gender marker errors
Misspelled name or wrong name order
Wrong gender marker
A legal name change after filing that USCIS does not have yet
Send proof, such as a marriage certificate or court order, so the record matches before printing.
Birth date and birthplace errors
Wrong date of birth
Wrong country of birth
Wrong city where it appears in your record
Compare your record against your birth certificate and passport, and contact USCIS with copies of both if anything differs.
Who pays for the fix
If USCIS made the error, a replacement may be free. If the error came from your form, you may have to pay. Keep copies of what you filed to show which is which.
What Information Prints on Your Card?
A green card shows your name, photo, date and country of birth, category, card expiration date, "Resident Since" date and USCIS number. Your A-Number is the 'USCIS#' printed on the front of green cards issued after May 10, 2010. An EAD shows your category code and validity dates.
Numbers on the green card
The USCIS number is your A-Number, and the card number is a separate code. Our guides to the alien number and the green card number explain each one.
Neither is your receipt number.
Fields on the EAD
The EAD shows your category code, card number, valid-from date and expiration date. Check the category matches what you applied for.
Also confirm that your name and photo are correct. An error in any field can cause trouble with Form I-9.
Preparing for the Card to Ship
While the card is in production, set up for the next stage. Link your online account so you see the mailing update quickly. Note your receipt number. Tell anyone who handles your mail to watch for a USCIS envelope.
Production itself needs nothing from you, so skip calls and letters unless your address changes.
Watch your online account
As of October 2026, USCIS describes the account like this: Free USCIS online account: case status updates, notices, link paper-filed cases. Linked cases show each status change and may show the tracking number once the card ships.
Plan for delivery day
Plan to be home or have a trusted person check the mail. The mailing stage has its own risks, covered in our card mailed guide.
If you will be away, ask someone you trust to collect the envelope.
Card Production Scams and Fake Fees
Scammers target people with approved cases by asking for "printing" or "shipping" fees. USCIS does not charge a separate fee to print or ship an approved card. The only exception tied to cards is the USCIS Immigrant Fee for OS155A cases, paid on uscis.gov.

How to spot a fake fee request
Real USCIS emails come from .gov addresses and never ask for gift cards or wire transfers. Check any message against the official tool. Our USCIS scams guide lists common tricks.
What to do if you paid a scammer
Report it to the Federal Trade Commission and your bank. Change your USCIS account password. Tell your attorney if you have one.
Keep the messages and receipts as evidence for your report.
Mistakes to Avoid During Card Production
The biggest mistakes are moving without updating USCIS, traveling abroad without proof, filing a replacement too early and paying fake fees. Each one can delay or lose your card.
The lists below split them by type so you can check your plans before acting.
Address, travel and work mistakes
Moving without filing a change of address
Leaving the U.S. with no proof of status
Starting a job before the EAD start date
Ignoring the address line in the status message
Filing and payment mistakes
Filing Form I-90 before USCIS confirms a lost card
Paying a "release" or "shipping" fee
Filing a second Form I-765 while the first card prints
Ignoring an unpaid USCIS Immigrant Fee on an OS155A case
Why patience helps
Most cards ship without any action. Calling or refiling too early often creates more work, not a faster card.
Use the time to confirm your address and plan for delivery.
Card Production Examples by Case Type
These short examples show how the update plays out in common cases. Your case may differ, but the pattern is similar: approval, production, mailing, delivery.
The names are fictional. Each example shows a different route: a marriage case, an EAD renewal, a new immigrant and a replacement card. Notice what each person checked or did, since that is what you can copy.
Example: marriage-based I-485
Ana's I-485 was approved after her interview. Soon after, the status showed card production, and later the mailing update. Because her marriage was under two years old at approval, she received a 2-year conditional card.
Example: EAD renewal with no approval message
Raj's EAD renewal went from "Case Was Received" straight to card production. He had no separate approval headline. The card arrived later, and his employer used it for Form I-9.
Example: OS155A immigrant
Lina entered the U.S. on an immigrant visa but had not paid the Immigrant Fee. Her OS155A case sat still. After she paid online, the status moved to card production.
Example: I-90 replacement after a printing error
Omar's new green card showed a misspelled surname that was correct on his form. He filed Form I-90 to report the USCIS error. The replacement went through production again, and he checked every field on arrival.
When to Contact USCIS About Card Production
Contact USCIS if production has lasted a long time with no change, your address changed after the card shipped, your name changed, or you need temporary proof. Have your receipt number and the order date ready.
Use the Contact Center for these questions.
Before you call
Check your online account for notices. Confirm the address on file. On OS155A cases, confirm the fee payment.
Write down the card order date from the status message and what you want to ask, so the call stays short.
What USCIS can tell you
An agent may confirm whether the card printed, shipped or came back, and can note an address change. They cannot speed up printing.
Ask the agent for a service request number if they open one.
When to Get Legal Help
Legal help makes sense if your card production stops with a notice of intent to revoke, a case reopening, or an error you cannot fix by phone. An immigration attorney or DOJ-accredited representative can review your file. Our case status meanings hub explains other updates you may see.
Situations that need a lawyer
A notice that USCIS is reopening or revoking your case
A past removal order or immigration court case
A conditional card when you expected a 10-year card
A card with a category you did not apply for
Where to find help
Look for an immigration attorney or a DOJ-accredited representative at a recognized nonprofit. Avoid "notarios" who offer legal services without a license.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long after "new card is being produced" do you get it?
USCIS does not publish an official time from production to delivery. The next update, "Card Was Mailed To Me," usually adds a USPS tracking number, and delivery follows the postal service's schedule. If nothing changes for a long time, confirm your address and contact USCIS with your receipt number and the card order date.
What does OS155A mean on my case status?
OS155A is the case type for green cards issued to people who immigrated on an immigrant visa. It is not a form you file. The case starts after you pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee and enter the U.S. When the status says the card is being produced, your green card is printing.
Does card production mean my case can no longer be denied?
Card production happens only after approval, so the decision is already favorable. USCIS can reopen or revoke a case in rare situations, such as fraud or a serious error, but only with a written notice. Without such a notice, the approval stands and the card will be mailed.
Do I need to pay anything while my card is being produced?
No, unless you have an OS155A case and have not paid the USCIS Immigrant Fee. Adjustment applicants already paid with Form I-485, and EAD applicants paid with Form I-765 or qualified for no fee. Anyone asking for a printing or shipping fee is likely a scammer.
Why did my work permit go to card production with no interview?
Most work permit cases are decided without an interview. USCIS reviews the file and your biometrics, then approves and orders the card. That is why EAD cases often move from "Case Was Received" straight to card production with no separate approval headline.
Will I get an approval notice as well as the card?
Usually yes. USCIS mails an approval notice on Form I-797 and mails the card separately. They can arrive on different days, in either order. Keep both. The notice is useful for records and later filings, while the card is your everyday proof.
Is "card was produced" the same as "card was mailed"?
No. "Card was produced" means printing is finished and the card is still at USCIS. "Card Was Mailed To Me" means USPS has it, usually with a tracking number. Many cases skip the produced step and go straight to mailing.
Can I pick up my card at a USCIS office instead?
No. Cards are printed at a central facility and sent by mail, and a local office cannot print one for you. If you need proof urgently, ask for an appointment for a temporary I-551 stamp instead.
What if my name changed after I filed?
Tell USCIS before the card prints if you can. Call the Contact Center with your receipt number and proof of the name change, such as a marriage certificate. If the card already printed with your old name, you may need Form I-90 to get a corrected card.
